Saudi Arabia may Ban Skype, Viber and WhatsApp.
According to available report free call and SMS service providing internet companies such as Skype, Viber and WhatsApp face being banned in Saudi Arabia if operators fail to allow authorities in the kingdom to censor them, industry sources said.
Already its neighboring country UAE had blocked Skype applications and Viber.
Saudi Arabia Communications and Information Technology Commission had already sent out messages to these operators on how to furnish means of control on them.
According to industry people local telecom operators were behind the move due to the damage that has caused to them by the free Skype, Viber and WhatsApp applications.
This act will affect the foreigners working in the Kingdom where they will have to pay lot of money to the local telecom operators once these free service providers are banned.
In 2010 too these two countries threatened to ban BlackBerry instant messaging and demanded installing local servers to censor that service. Still now, that service remain uninterrupted but it was not clear how far the BlackBerry maker did comply.
