5 Indians were arrested in Saudi Arabia over VoIP sales.
Five numbers of Indian people were arrested in Jeddah Saudi Arabia for running internet telephone cards selling business and at the time of their arrest they were with cards valued at 23,000 Saudi Riyals . Recently Saudi Arabia had banned the use of Internet phone calls and providers like Viber and many other programs in their country. The main reason is that the oil rich nation is losing lot of revenue by its 3 mobile phone service providers like Saudi Telecom Co, Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) and Zain Saudi due to the VoIP usage.
According to media reports that popular internet programs Skype, Whatsapp and Viber IM are not allowed to be operative in Saudi Arabia by the authorities. Most affected people by this decision are those people who are working as laborers in Saudi Arabia for low salary from the countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. Already all the phone service providers and internet service providers are using VoIP blocking software to cut these services through the internet to increase Telecom sector’s revenue from these Asian country region people who are working there.
